Unconventional Success: A Fundamental Approach to Personal Investment
Author(s): David F. Swensen
Our Review: "Investment Lessons from an Inventor of the Endowment Model"
I highly recommend this book to institutional and, especially, individual investors. By reading this excellent book, the investors would learn ideas from David Swensen, an inventor of the famed Endowment Model of investing that he co-developed with Dean Takahashi at Yale University's Investments Office. In my opinion, reading the book would help the investors build portfolios that would not disappear during financial crises and would grow over time. Read More

Buffettology: The Previously Unexplained Techniques That Have Made Warren Buffett the World's Most Famous Investor
Author(s): Mary Buffett, David Clark
Our Review: "Learning from Maestro of Investing"
I highly recommend this book. There are many investment books that are full of qualitative ways to evaluate a company. They are fun to read but the problem with these books is that it is hard to improve your investment process based on the information from these books. It is not quantifiable. Read More

Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World
Author(s): Michael Lewis
Our Review: "Four Countries and One State Face Global Storm"
This excellent book talks about experiences of four European countries (Iceland, Ireland, Greece, and Germany) and a US state (California), which is as big as a country, during the global financial crisis of 2008-2009. It reads as an international sequel to "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine". Read More

The Myth of the Rational Market: A History of Risk, Reward, and Delusion on Wall Street
Author(s): Justin Fox
Our Review: "Thank You for Dispelling the Myth"
I think it is a very important book for anybody involved in the active money management. I really enjoyed the book because it explains that the rational market theory started as a hypothesis or a scientific model that oversimplified reality. As the model became more popular, many of its nuances and assumptions were lost. The rational market hypothesis became a theory. Read More

Day of Empire: How Hyperpowers Rise to Global Dominance--and Why They Fall
Author(s): Amy Chua
Our Review: "Tolerance is Key for Dominance"
It is another wonderful book written by Amy Chua. The central thesis of the book is that a country has to be tolerant in order to reach global dominance. However, tolerance is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for becoming a dominant empire. The other conditions could include geography, large population, natural resources, leadership, etc. Read More

World on Fire: How Exporting Free Market Democracy Breeds Ethnic Hatred and Global Instability
Author(s): Amy Chua
Our Review: "Global Investor's Perspective"
"World on Fire" is one of the most useful and interesting books I have read in a while. It provides information on who "market dominant minorities" in various corners of the world are and how they managed to get this dominance. As a global investor, I have found that it is extremely important to understand origins of top managers' power within companies, and how these managers and their companies fit in the power structures of their countries.
